Operating Instructions:
Strip the fiber as per instructions provided by the splicing machine manufacturer. Insert the fiber inside the inner tube of the splice protection sleeves and push back the splice protection sleeve. Cleave the fiber as per instructions of cleaver or splicing machine manufacturer* and splice the two fibers. Carefully push the sleeve to cover the entire stripped length. Position the joint roughly at the centre of the splice protection sleeve. Remove carefully with both hands, avoiding twisting or sagging of fibers, and place in
oven. Clamp the fibers on both sides using mechanism provided in the splicing machine. In case your machine is not equipped with such a mechanism, extra precautions are required to be taken to ensure that no twisting or sagging or excessive pulling of fibers occurs.
Begin the heating cycle, ensure that the sleeve has shrunk fully.*2
Process requirements and recommendations
1.* The splice protection sleeves should cover the entire length of the stripped fiber. Refer chart below for recommended cleave length suitable for various lengths of splice protectors.

Splice protection sleeves of sizes less than 25mm may require special tools or clever accessories to achieve cleave lengths lesser than 10mm.
*2. Splicing machines come with either factory preset heating programs or user defined ones. Be careful to choose the appropriate program to ensure complete shrinking of the splice protection sleeves. Refer to technical specifications for typical shrinking times associated with splice sleeves. The shrinking times will depend upon type of oven used and ambient temperature, consult user manual of heater to correlate.
3. Use only the heater provided by splicing machine manufacturer, for shrinking the splice protection sleeves. If external heaters have to be used ensure that it is designed specifically for shrinking splice protection sleeves. The ovens should be designed for “Center Out” shrinking and avoid entrapment of air inside the sleeve.
4. Do not touch the sleeves till the splice protection sleeves have cooled sufficiently. The sleeves while hot are soft and the fiber may twist or bend during handling resulting in higher losses. ( ADD PHOTO Bent Fiber)

5. Do not use heat guns, lighters or any other uncontrolled heat source to shrink the sleeves.
6. If splicing is being carried out in dusty environment or the protectors have been stored improperly*refer storage instructions it is recommended to clean the protectors using canned air prior to being used.
